How Try Something New got started

In an effort to entertain my children as well as have a little fun myself, I came up with the idea of Try Something New Friday in which we get together with friends and neighbors and we try something new. This blog will keep you up to date on what we are currently "trying" as well as what we've done in the past...enjoy!!

Trying Strawberries

We made a trip to Huhn's Strawberry Farm in Eagle, MI and found out that there are several different types of Strawberries! Some are better for making jam, some are sweet for just eating, some are more sour and best with some sugar on a tart! This was a perfect place to "Try Something New!" (even if it was Monday!)

So 2 of my daughters and I spent an hour on a summer morning picking these beautiful strawberries. Each of us took a different section to pick in and we came home with 6 different types of strawberries to try!
We called our neighbors and some friends and gave them a meeting time and got to work! We washed them all, keeping them all seperate and then gave everyone a plate that looked like this... Then made a sheet with all the names of the strawberries on the top, all the names of the people trying down the side and everyone was given the opportunity to rate the taste based on a 1-6 scale...1 being best, 6 being worst.

Here's the official "Try Something New-Strawberries" event. The least favorite was the strawberry called "Big Idea" which was a big sour-but we tried it without the sugar-after adding the sugar, they were much better! The favorite of the day was the Earligrow-a small, sweet strawberry.

A big thanks to Huhn Strawberry Farm for the delicious strawberries and their patience as we took time to keep all the different varieties seperated! Check them out at www.huhnstrawberryfarm.com but go quickly...they are almost done picking!!
